We are excited to announce that we have added NOAA AIGFS (Artificial Intelligence Global Forecasting System) as a new data source to the stormglass.io API.
At stormglass.io, our goal is to provide you with the most accurate weather data available. By adding NOAA’s latest AI-driven model, we continue to bridge the gap between traditional physics-based forecasting and the new era of machine learning in meteorology.
What is NOAA AIGFS?
The AIGFS is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) latest step into AI weather forecasting. It is trained on decades of high-quality atmospheric data from the traditional GFS model.
The result is a model that can produce highly accurate global forecasts with significantly less computing power than traditional methods, often outperforming standard models in predicting temperature, wind, and pressure patterns.
Why this matters
The weather industry is changing fast. With the addition of AIGFS alongside ECMWF’s AIFS, our users now have access to two of the world’s most advanced AI weather models in one powerful API.
Key benefits of using NOAA AIGFS include:
- High Precision: Improved accuracy for mid-range global forecasts.
- Speed: AI models generate forecasts much faster than traditional numerical models.
- Reliability: Backed by NOAA’s extensive data archives and expertise.
How to access the data
The new weather model is available to all customers starting today, without any additional cost. To request data from the new model, simply add AIGFS to your source parameter in your API request.

We are thrilled to see how our users will use this new AI-powered data to build even better applications and services.
Happy coding!
